3. Submit an application.
When you're ready to foster, you will need to submit an application to your local governing board that oversees foster care. You'll be asked questions about your financial situation, which will ensure that you have the means to care for foster children. When your application is processed, you will also be given a background check. Certain types of legal trouble can disqualify you from becoming a foster parent. For example, people who have been convicted of child abuse or sexual crimes cannot be foster parents.
4. Provide a safe home for children.
Foster parents have a duty to house children safely. Your home should be free from hazards that might injure a child.
